A recent study at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, demonstrated that grade-school children who took piano lessons for three years scored higher than their peers on tests of general and spatial cognitive development–the very faculties needed for performance in math, engineering and other pursuits. Other scientists are coming up with similar results. A University of California at Irvine study showed that kids who took piano lessons along with computer puzzle-solving did better in math.
What better way to begin your music journey than learning the piano? Even if you haven’t played any instrument before, the piano is an excellent start for everyone - from very young children to the oldest of adults. Piano lessons are a fundamental way to build a solid foundation in music without major limitations in developing rhythm, tone or intonation. Nonetheless, the benefits of learning piano go far beyond that. This is an excellent activity that engages both sides of the brain - left and right, develops coordination in both mind and muscles, and strengthens fine motor skills. Kids who take piano lessons learn a lot about discipline, dedication and the rewards of hard work.
