ABOUT THE TEACHER
PROFESSIONAL BIO
Mr. Joseph is an accomplished percussionist and music educator with decades of experience performing and teaching across a wide range of musical genres, including Jazz, Rock, Salsa, Afro-Latin, Big Band, and Pop. As a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps Band, he served as a drummer in marching, concert, and jazz ensembles, performing in hundreds of official ceremonies, including the prestigious Presidential Exchange Ceremony. After completing his service, Mr. Joseph continued to build his musical career in the vibrant Los Angeles music scene, performing at iconic venues such as The House of Blues, The Roxy, The Conga Room, and renowned festivals including the Leimert Jazz Festival.
Mr. Joseph holds a Master of Music degree from California State University, Los Angeles, where he focused on commercial music, honing his skills in composition, arranging, and recording. During this time, he worked closely with legendary Cuban drummer Jimmy Branly, transcribing and editing The New Method for Afro-Cuban Drumming, which became a valuable teaching resource for fellow students. His professional experience includes performing with celebrated Latin Jazz artists and leading his own contemporary band, covering a broad range of musical styles and arranging original compositions.
In the classroom, Mr. Joseph brings both his performance expertise and academic training into a student-centered teaching style. He tailors each lesson to the individual, helping students build confidence, technique, and creativity. Known for his patience, energy, and ability to connect with learners of all backgrounds, Mr. Joseph inspires students not only to improve as drummers but to discover their own unique musical voice. His commitment to education and passion for rhythm make him a motivating and impactful teacher in any musical setting.
